Ride with the driver of a Class 57

on the North Wales line!

We are able to offer, by kind permission of Virgin Trains, North Wales Coast Railway Website readers the chance of a ride with the driver of the Class 57 locomotive hauling the Saturday Pendolino from Crewe to Holyhead or return.

One journey in each direction is available for auction: you can bid for either Crewe - Holyhead or Holyhead - Crewe. The bid is for a ride by two people together in one direction. The minimum bid is £200 to be donated (covering a journey in one direction for two people) which will all go to charity. Two first class return tickets to travel from any Virgin Trains-served station to your starting point will be included.

Please note that you will need to climb into the locomotive cab from the platform, and one person will need to travel standing up, so the offer is not suitable for anyone of limited mobility.  Travel in the cab is on condition that you do not distract the driver, and at your own risk; you will be asked to sign a form to this effect. You will need to be at Crewe by 10am, or Holyhead at 2pm, to meet the train.

Email your your name, the amount of your bid and your preferred direction 'westbound' or 'eastbound', to:

cabride@nwrail.org.uk

The highest bid for each direction received by 6pm each day will appear on this page in case you wish to bid again.

Bidding closes at 6pm on 31 March.

The details of the highest bidders will then be forwarded to the Virgin team who will make contact to arrange date of the ride. The winners will then be expected to enter their donations via the 'Virgin Money Giving' website.

All the money donated will go CLIC Sargent, the children’s charity that aims to ease the burden of childhood cancer on children, young people and their families.
