Thomas Brassey celebrations - latest

On Monday morning  7 November we believe the Bicentenary Committee are unveiling a plaque (another one?) in honour of Brassey at Chester Station at 10.30am. There will then follow a handover of the nameplate to Virgin as the train stops en route to Holyhead (11.18). Dignitaries with them take a journey courtesy of Virgin to Holyhead returning in the afternoon. - 6 November

Cambrian 37

29 October saw a Kinsfisher Railtours charter, 1Z37 06:24 from High Wycombe, reach Pwllheli with 37 416 doing the honours beyond Machynlleth. Above, the outbound service at Penrhyndeudraeth. (Rowan Crawshaw)

Two views by our Pwllheli correspondent Paul Japheth:  a shot of 37 416 shunting its 9 coach Pullman stock at Pwllheli, with the red brick Town Hall in the background ...

...  and backing on to its stock with Bridge Garage and the Goods Crossing in the background. Unfortunately this will be almost the last 37 here for a while, but the good news is that Network Rail are still improving the track and have this recently renewed the track section from Pwllheli to Abererch. A continuous-welded rail train top-and-tailed by 37 416 and 37 419 also reached Penrhyndeudraeth and  Pwllheli on Thursday night 27 October.  See Paul's website for more Cambrian Coast pics. - 4 November

End of Season Narrow Gauge - report by Larry Goddard

Mary and I took advantage of the 27 October one-day hot spell that was promised to have a final 2005 look at the attractions in our area.

Something to watch at Tan-Y-Bwlch although the crowds at were not what they seemed. A carriage (No.104) in the middle of the 11.55 from Blaneau developed a hotbox and everyone de-trained while it was set aside. This is Earl of Merioneth setting back to to re-couple the train at 13:29.

Arrival at Llanberis found the Snowdon Railway shut for maintenance. Never mind, the Works Train looked interesting.

Across the road, the Llanberis Lake Railway was doing a good service. Ruston & Hornsby Diesel Topsy looks on as Elidir enters Gilfach Ddu with a train bound for the new roadside terminus on 27th October. Interestingly, locos still take coal and water here at the original terminus.

'Elidir' makes haste to catch up on some lost time as it crosses the road en route to the new terminus. - 4 November

RHTT time

Two big nose beasties, 37 602 and 37 608,  appeared on the 1Z96 'water cannon'  daytime run down to Bidston on 22 October; This splendid action shot was taken by Warren Desmond on Storeton bank nearr Heswall. .- 4 November

Face to Face, or 'did I Really take this?'

Ivour Bufton wrtes: 'Here is a view from 22-23 October's  Thomas event at the Llangollen Railway. For the general enthusiast who can put up with the crowds (And I mean crowds) there is some good haulage to be had at reasonable prices. Engines in use were D261 (37 240), Duck (Pannier 6430), and 'Thomas' (Jinty) on platform rides only.'  - 4 November
