Miscellany

A locomtive reached Aberystwyth in the form of 31 128 on 10

Holyhead Sunday - not
much to see

Little to excite locomotive fans in this view by 'Corrie' of Holyhead
on Sunday 9 October, but for the record the trains are 221
116 David Livingstone and 221 119 Amelia Earhart. -

Tales of the Rail Head
Treatment Train

This sequence of pictures by Dave Bramley records the unusual
events of Saturday 8 October at Chester station. The train came off the
Coast
with 20 301 on the rear having defective wipers so 37 608
had been
despatched from Crewe to replace it.

Somewhere during the uncoupling of
the 20 and a spray wagon a pipe was missed and was torn off when 37
602
drew forward.

After 37608 arrived it was first
placed on top of 37602, then to the side, then back again then to the
side of the 20.

The two spray wagons were split and 37 602 backed the
remaining one (with the generator and spray head on too)...

...
onto 37 608, and
that pair set off for Wrexham and Bidston leaving 20 301 and the
damaged wagon behind.

Warren Desmond was on hand to capture the mini-RHTT later at
Bidston station.
Another small incident, again showing the initiative of DRS staff,
occurred at Wrexham on 11 October. George Jones writes: 'The
train turned up at Wrexham General at 15.25 with 37 602
leading and 20 301 behind. Stopped in the back platform, the
20's AWS was found faulty - I was asked if I had a screwdriver on me! -
but they got one off the station staff. By the time the problem was
fixed the 15.45 passenger was due, so they didn't go forward until
15.53.'

page for timings of these trains, and our 24 October 2004
Notice Board for lots of technicalities about these Rail Head
Treatment (or Water Cannon) trains. - 12 October
